Aqib Javed Named Pakistan’s Interim White-Ball Coach

PCB has appointed former cricketer Aqib Javed as the interim coach for the national cricket team’s white-ball formats. This decision follows the resignation of Gary Kirsten last month. Aqib will hold this position until the Champions Trophy in 2025, after which the PCB plans to hire a permanent head coach.

In addition to his coaching role, Aqib Javed is set to take on responsibilities within the selection committee after the Champions Trophy. The PCB’s decision aims to strengthen the team’s management and streamline its approach ahead of major tournaments.

This appointment comes after a challenging period for the PCB, marked by tensions with Gary Kirsten. Reports suggest the disagreement arose over the board’s move to revoke the coaching staff’s selection powers. During the Australia tour, Jason Gillespie stepped in as a temporary white-ball coach to fill the gap.

Aqib Javed’s extensive experience as a cricketer and coach makes him a strong candidate to guide Pakistan through this transitional phase. His leadership will be critical as the team prepares for key international events, including the Champions Trophy.

With this change, the PCB aims to bring stability and focus to the national team, ensuring they are well-prepared for upcoming challenges. Aqib Javed’s appointment reflects the board’s commitment to enhancing the team’s performance and creating a stronger management structure.
