On Tuesday, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), announced that his father, Asif Ali Zardari, will be their choice for the president’s position. He said this after a two-day meeting of the party’s Central Executive Committee. Bilawal stressed that they have the right to hold key positions as per the constitution. He believes that his father, Asif Ali Zardari, has the capability to deal with the current problems facing the country.
Bilawal also said that PPP will not join any coalition government. Instead, they will support the candidate for prime minister from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) while staying in the opposition. Bilawal admitted that PPP doesn’t have enough support to form a government, so they prefer to help PML-N’s candidate to avoid political problems.
The day before, top leaders of PPP advised Bilawal Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari against forming a government with PML-N. They suggested that PPP should stay in opposition.
Members of the Central Executive Committee suggested that PPP should respect the decisions of independent candidates and not form a coalition government, as it might harm their political standing. Some even proposed talking to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) instead of PML-N.
