Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, has once again proven his mettle by being nominated to Cricket Australia’s honorary World Test Championship squad of the Tournament.
This team is intended to produce a team that would perform well under all circumstances and honours the players that displayed great accomplishments throughout the course of the two-year WTC cycle.
The team consists of two spinners and two fast bowlers, including all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, as well as aggressive middle order hitters who were crucial in the championship’s latter stages.
Babar’s selection to the team is the result of his exceptional Test cricket performance over the previous 24 months. He scored more than 1,500 runs in in 14 Tests, including a remarkable 425-ball 196 against Australia in Karachi that almost gave Pakistan an improbable victory. Against Sri Lanka, England, and New Zealand, he also hit hundreds.
Despite playing eight Tests in Pakistan’s batsman-friendly home stadiums, he managed to keep a 56.30 average away from home. In one crucial match against Sri Lanka in Galle, he scored 119 runs, which helped his team win.
Squad: Kagiso Rabada, James Anderson, Joe Root, Dimuth Karaunaratne, Babar Azam, Travis Head, Ravindra Jadeja, Usman Khawaja (WK), Ravichandran Ashwin, and Rishabh Pant.
