Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has called for the current national team captain, Babar Azam, to step down from his position.
The former player believes that Babar’s captaincy responsibilities are affecting his performance with the bat and that he would be able to break records and surpass the achievements of greats in the game if he focused solely on his batting.
The former player suggested that fast bowler Shaheen Afridi should take over as Pakistan’s ODI and Test cricket captain as long as he remains fit. Another option for the T20I cricket captaincy is Shadab Khan.
“Babar Azam should quit the captaincy. If he leaves the captaincy, he will break all records and surpass records made by greats in the game. His captaincy is affecting his performance with the bat, and he should focus on his batting,” said Basit Ali.
