Pakistan is set to make major changes to its squad after losing the first two Tests against England. Reports on August 31 say wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan and opener Imam-ul-Haq are expected to return home before the third Test. Salman Agha is yet to be considered.
Rizwan struggled with the bat during the Lord’s Test, scoring only seven and one runs. Imam, meanwhile, missed the match because of a calf injury. He had already been ruled out of the second Test after failing to recover in time.
The PCB has also turned to domestic cricket for fresh options. Six players are expected to join the squad, including Saim Ayub and Arafat Minhas. White-ball head coach Mike Hesson has also been brought into the Test setup and is expected to work with the team at Edgbaston. Former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed will remain with the squad.
The third Test is scheduled to begin on September 9, giving Pakistan an opportunity to avoid a series clean sweep.
