More than 763,000 Pakistani workers went abroad for jobs in 2025 through official and legal channels, showing that Pakistan remains one of the world’s largest countries sending labour to other nations for employment.
Officials said this large overseas workforce continues to play an important role in supporting the national economy.
Many of these workers send money back home in the form of remittances, which helps millions of families manage household expenses, education costs, and daily needs. At the same time, these workers also contribute to the economies of the countries where they are employed.
The figures were shared during a two-day training session held in Islamabad. The session was organized by the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development in partnership with the International Labour Organization. The event was part of a project titled “Advancing Safe and Fair Labour Migration.”
The initiative is supported by international partners including Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the European Union, and GIZ Pakistan. The program brought together government officials to discuss better systems for overseas employment and worker protection.
During the training, participants focused on improving recruitment processes, making labour migration more transparent, and strengthening rules to protect workers from exploitation and unfair treatment abroad.
Officials emphasized the need for safe and fair migration policies so that Pakistani workers can travel abroad with proper documentation, legal protection, and better job opportunities.
They also highlighted the importance of cooperation between Pakistan and international organizations to ensure that migrant workers are treated fairly and their rights are protected.
Experts believe that improving labour migration systems will not only benefit workers but also increase remittance inflows, which remain an important source of foreign exchange for Pakistan’s economy.
