Breaking! Another Gas Reserves Discover in Sindh

Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Pakistan’s largest exploration and production company, has announced a major discovery of natural gas at its Shahu-1 well in the Khairpur district of Sindh. The announcement was shared by the company through a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Wednesday.

The Shahu-1 well is located within the Sawan South Block, and the gas was found in the lower Goru B Reservoir Sand. OGDCL holds a 20% working interest in this joint venture. Other stakeholders include United Energy Pakistan Limited (UEPL) with a 75% share, and two entities, Government Holding Private Limited (GHPL) and Sindh Energy Holding Limited (SEHL), each holding 2.5%.

The well was drilled to a depth of 12,675 feet and is estimated to produce around 10 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (mmscfd). This makes the discovery an important addition to Pakistan’s energy resources.

This new gas reserve is expected to strengthen the country’s energy security by reducing its reliance on imported energy. Furthermore, it will contribute to boosting Pakistan’s hydrocarbon reserves, supporting efforts to meet the growing energy demands of households, businesses, and industries.

Such developments highlight the potential of Pakistan’s untapped natural resources and reinforce the importance of sustained exploration activities. The discovery is seen as a positive step toward improving energy availability and fostering economic growth.
