On Thursday, Federal Minister of State for Energy Hammad Azhar said that petrol prices cannot be raised by Rs9 to help a few corporations. The minister’s comments come after petroleum dealers went on a nationwide strike, which Hammad claims is a ruse to get their price hike requests realised.
“We would accept valid demands, but not illegitimate ones,” he insisted, adding that bothering citizens was inappropriate.
According to the energy minister, a summary of the increase in margin has already been provided to the Cabinet’s Economic Coordination Committee at the request of the All Pakistan Petrol Pump Dealers Association (APPPDA), and the decision would be made at the next meeting.
