Chawmos Festival Begins in Beautiful Kalash Valley of Chitral

The lively Chawmos festival has begun in Kalash Valley, Chitral, marking the new year and celebrating the rich culture of the Kalash people.

The festival takes place in the villages of Bamburet, Rumbur, and Birey, lasting 15 days. It features unique traditions like Chhoi Nari, where young participants light fires on a sacred hillside to compete. Another important ritual is Shara Beraik, where people share cultural symbols made from flour, representing unity and good fortune.

A heartfelt ceremony called Mundahik is held to honor loved ones who have passed away. During this, families gather around a cedarwood fire for a solemn remembrance.

The Chawmos festival not only brings the Kalash community together but also attracts visitors from around the globe. Tourists come to experience the beautiful traditions, rituals, and hospitality of the Kalash people.

The festival will continue until December 22, offering a wonderful display of cultural pride and the vibrant heritage of Kalash Valley.
