Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain Being Observed Today Amid Tight Security

Muslims in Pakistan are currently observing Chehlum, a solemn event commemorating the 40th day after the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussein (RA), the grandson of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his companions in the tragic events of Karbala.

Mourning processions are taking place in various cities like Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, and Peshawar. Strict security measures have been put in place nationwide to ensure safety.

In Karachi, the largest city in Pakistan, the main mourning procession begins at Nishter Park and ends at the Hussainia Iranian Imambargah Kharadar. Many smaller processions from different parts of the city join this central one. To secure the route, roads have been blocked with containers, and a significant presence of police, Rangers, and security personnel is visible.

Similar security arrangements have been made in Lahore, where the annual Urs of Hazrat Data Gunj Bakhsh is also being observed. As a result of these events, both private and public schools in Lahore and Karachi are closed for the day. Additionally, mourning processions are planned in other cities across Pakistan, including Jacobabad, Multan, Sargodha, Peshawar, Quetta, and more.
