China’s GDP Expands 5 pct in H1, Fueling Global Markets

China’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew 5 percent year on year in the first half of 2024, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), China showed earlier this week.
China’s GDP reached around 61.68 trillion yuan (about 8.65 trillion U.S. dollars) in the first half, NBS data showed.
In the second quarter, the country’s GDP expanded 4.7 percent year on year, according to the NBS.

Here’s the breakdown:

Primary Industry: Grew by 3.5%
Service Sector: Up by 4.6%
