After the revelation of the fact that the recurring protests damaged the plantation inside the park, Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz prohibited all gatherings of people in Greater Iqbal Park, which includes Minar-e-Pakistan.
Hamza Shahbaz claimed in his statement that the imposition of a ban on any public gatherings at the Minar-e-Pakistan was a proper way to use a historic park for public demonstrations.
Moreover, the chief minister of Punjab refused to prohibit any fee for the entrance of the people visiting the Greater Iqbal Park.
He stressed that this park is for the people of different generations of life and there should be no entry fees for it. Â
“These kinds of issues should not even be placed before a discussion.” He claimed It is important to notice that the Greater Iqbal Park was inaugurated by Nawaz Sharif in Lahore in 2016.
The segment of Circular Road in between the park and Lahore Fort comes under Iqbal Park’s extension. The reconstruction of the Minar-i-Pakistan, situated inside the park, is also a part of this program.
The 125-acre park is totally ringed around by the old city of Lahore, where the visiting people can rest on comfortable ground areas and have fun with the dancing fountains with many colourful lights. Â
