Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has recently expanded the reach of Lahore’s free Wi-Fi service, increasing the number of access points from 100 to 200 as part of her initiative known as the “CM Maryam Nawaz Free Wi-Fi” scheme.
This expansion now includes areas such as Manga Mandi, Multan Road, and Valencia, providing improved connectivity to residents. The service aims to facilitate emergency communication, allowing people to easily contact the police and their families using apps like the Women Safety App and Punjab Police App.
However, entertainment apps such as Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok are not accessible through this service to maintain focus on emergency and essential communications.
In addition to enhancing digital connectivity, Punjab is set to introduce its first air ambulance service. Starting operations in June, this service will cater to districts that currently lack adequate rescue and emergency medical services.
This initiative is expected to significantly improve response times and access to critical healthcare during emergencies across Punjab.
