General Syed Asim Munir, the head of the army, has begun his first tour to China, which many consider to be important given recent geostrategic developments.
“The COAS is on a four-day official visit to China for enhancing bilateral military relations,” a terse statement issued here by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Monday said.
It didn’t give any more information. He arrived in China for the first time since taking over as army chief on November 29.
It seems a little strange to some observers that the army chief’s visit took so long to happen.
Within a few weeks of his appointment, Pakistan’s new army chief is accustomed to travelling to China. This time, the crisis in Pakistan is said to be domestic, while China is going through a shift.
