The Peshawar High Court has directed the University of Peshawar to immediately release all outstanding payments under the Need-Based Scholarship Program (NBSP) to eligible students, making it clear that financial difficulties cannot be used as a reason to delay or deny scholarship funds.
In its ruling, the court stressed that students who qualify for the program have a legal right to receive the financial assistance promised to them. The judgment highlighted that many deserving students depend on these scholarships to continue their education, cover tuition fees, and meet other academic expenses.
The court also instructed the Higher Education Commission to ensure that the remaining funds are transferred without further delay so that the disbursement process can be completed promptly. Officials were told to coordinate with the university administration to prevent additional obstacles for students awaiting payments.
The decision was widely seen as an important step in safeguarding the educational rights of underprivileged and financially struggling students. It reaffirmed that access to higher education should not be disrupted because of administrative delays or budget-related issues.
Legal observers noted that the ruling sends a strong message to educational institutions and relevant authorities that scholarship commitments must be honoured on time, especially when they directly affect students’ academic futures.
