Doctors Reattach 12-Year-Old Boy’s Head to His Neck After Bike Accident

A 12-year-old boy from Jerusalem, Israel, is recovering after surgeons successfully reattached his head following a bike accident that caused internal decapitation. Suleiman Hassan was riding his bike when he was forcefully run over by a reckless driver, resulting in a severe impact that fractured the head and neck joint and tore all supporting ligaments.

Emergency responders quickly airlifted Hassan to Hadassah Medical Center Ein Kerem, where he underwent a complex and lengthy surgery. The injury was so severe that his head was nearly completely disconnected from the base of his neck. Despite the grim odds, Dr. Ohad Einav and his surgical team performed a remarkable and successful procedure, defying the typical 50% survival rate associated with such cases.

After the surgery, Suleiman was discharged from the hospital with his neck stabilized and placed under close supervision by the medical staff. The extraordinary intervention at Hadassah Medical Center Ein Kerem has given Suleiman Hassan a second chance at life, highlighting the exceptional skills and expertise of the medical team involved. Suleiman will now begin the journey of recovery, grateful for overcoming such a devastating injury and surrounded by the care of the hospital staff.
