The Dubai Sports Council has unveiled a groundbreaking event, the Dubai Jet Suit Race, marking the world’s first competition where participants navigate the skies in jet suits rather than conventional aircraft. Scheduled for February 28, this unique race is a collaboration between the council and Gravity Industries, the pioneering company behind jet suit technology. The event will coincide with the Dubai Boat Show and will be held at the Dubai Harbor, providing an unconventional and captivating spectacle.
The live announcement at Burj Park featured a dazzling demonstration with competitors soaring over the iconic Dubai Fountain in their jet suits. The Dubai Sports Council formalized its partnership with Gravity Industries to organize the race, and renowned Emirati racer Ahmed Al Shehhi is gearing up for the competition after undergoing specialized training. Safety is a paramount concern, with the race route carefully selected between Dubai Harbor and Skydive Dubai, complemented by specially designed suits and an expansive water area.
Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council, expressed enthusiasm for this historic event and extended gratitude to various stakeholders for their support. The race holds the promise of becoming a landmark on Dubai’s sports calendar, showcasing the city’s prowess in hosting innovative global events while simultaneously promoting the fusion of human and technological achievements.
Gravity Industries’ founder, Richard Browning, added to the excitement, drawing parallels between the Gravity Race Series and the thrills of Formula One, albeit in the aerial domain. Browning anticipates that the event will propel the growth of jet suit flying as a unique sport, capturing the imagination of audiences worldwide. The Dubai Jet Suit Race not only signifies a significant leap in aviation sports but also underlines Dubai’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of what is possible, creating a thrilling narrative in the skies above this futuristic city.
