Since its beginning, the e-challan system deployed in Islamabad as part of the Safe City Project has produced the anticipated outcomes, with a decrease in traffic rule violations.
It was implemented in the capital with the goal of ensuring a safe road environment, and it has been successful in maintaining traffic discipline as well as minimising traffic accidents and violations.
Qazi Jamil ur Rehman, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Islamabad, said that cutting-edge technology is being used in policing, which will aid in the enforcement of traffic laws and effective surveillance in the city. He stated that the technology would be upgraded further and that it would aid in traffic control.
Under the e-ticket scheme, more than 20,000 e-tickets were issued to motorists in Islamabad for different traffic offences detected by safe city cameras. Of the fine tickets issued, 11,358 were for speeding and 8,990 for failing to follow lanes.
These payment details tickets have been dispatched at the domain names of vehicle owners which they characterised with Excise and Taxation Office at the time of registration.
If the fine is not paid within 10 days, a copy of the challan will be placed in the vehicle’s master file at the Excise and Taxation Office, and legal action will be taken against the owner of the vehicle. The automobiles could not be sold or transferred to another location.
