Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has agreed to help the European Union (EU) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) remove their workers from Afghanistan.
According to sources, the EU’s special ambassador to Pakistan, Arshad Malik, submitted a letter to the CEO of PIA asking the repatriation of 420 passengers who were delayed in Kabul.
The letter from the European Union stated, “At this stage, we would request a flight from Kabul airport to Islamabad International Airport for straight continued transit to EU using another aircraft made available by EU.”
Similarly, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has issued a letter to PIA’s CEO, urging that the ADB’s staff be evacuated from Kabul as soon as possible.
This evacuation would include up to 290 individuals, with 162 being ADB officials and their families, Afghan citizens, and the balance being Filipino nationals stuck in Afghanistan.
According to sources, PIA plans to fly three special aircraft to Kabul on Monday to evacuate foreigners and their families in response to these requests.
