EU Outlines Wide-Ranging Artificial Intelligence Regulation

The European Commission released a detailed plan for artificial intelligence (AI) regulation throughout the European Union. AmCham EU backs the European Commission’s goals of facilitating the adoption of trustworthy AI applications and maintaining a consistent EU strategy. AmCham EU applauds the proposal’s risk-based approach to AI regulation, and our member companies will now carefully consider it.

From healthcare science to mobility and energy use, AI will help solve some of the world’s most pressing problems. A risk-based, use-case-specific approach to AI is needed, with a focus on high-risk AI applications. It also necessitates the appropriate level of investment, and the EU has the opportunity to take the lead in developing an AI ecosystem and promoting the creation of responsible AI solutions.

The European Union is expected to be the first region in the world to establish a legal framework for artificial intelligence, and this framework is likely to affect policy direction in other regions.
