PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has outlined a comprehensive agenda ahead of the upcoming general elections on February 8, 2024. His promises include saving Rs300 billion in federal expenditure, offering a one-year stipend to recent graduates, and providing up to 300 units of free electricity if his party comes to power. Addressing a range of challenges, Bilawal emphasized the importance of supporting peasants, laborers, and youth while tackling issues like inflation, economic crisis, population growth, natural disasters, and climate change.
Key to his financial strategy is redirecting funds from 17 federal ministries, which he claims should have been devolved to the provinces after the 18th Constitutional Amendment. This move aims to reallocate approximately Rs300 billion annually towards public benefits. Additionally, Bilawal’s vision includes substantial investment in the green energy sector, establishing green parks in each district to generate solar and wind energy. This energy would be distributed either for free to lower consumption segments or at a reduced cost, intending to decrease reliance on traditional electricity distribution companies.
In reiterating the iconic slogan “roti, kapra aur makan,” Bilawal seeks to connect with the foundational principles of the PPP, emphasizing their commitment to addressing fundamental needs in today’s context.
