Export of Buffalo Milk to Lift Pakistan’s Foreign Exchange Reserves

After a week-long visit to Pakistan, Chen Yiyi, President of Royal Group, told the China-Pakistan Agricultural and Industrial Cooperation Information Platform (CPAIC), “Buffalo breeds, buffalo science, and buffalo milk production are all abundant in Pakistan. We hope to set up a dairy processing plant in Pakistan to exploit its advantages and enhance Pakistan-China cooperation in this region.”

According to Gu Wenliang, Agriculture Commissioner of the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan, Pakistan is the world’s fourth largest milk producer, with buffalo milk accounting for 60% of total output.

Pakistan has 41 million buffaloes, and its milk production is higher than China’s. According to a Pakistani Government Economic Survey estimate, the country’s buffalo milk production reached 256,000 tons in fiscal year 2019-20.

Buffalo milk from Pakistan is flavorful and fattening. According to the official website of the Guangxi Buffalo Research Institute, buffalo milk has a dry matter content of 18.4 percent, which is significantly higher than ordinary milk. Buffalo milk also has a fat percentage and protein content of 7.9 percent and 4.5 percent, respectively, which are higher than the average raw milk dry matter content of 3.82 percent and 3.25 percent in China.
