The cancellation of New Zealand and England tours to Pakistan has cost Pakistan Television (PTV) millions of rupees, according to Fawad Chaudhry, the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting.
Pakistan has been trying hard for international teams to visit its land but things have not been in Pakistan’s favor lately.
PTV is considering legal action against New Zealand Cricket (NZC) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to recover the damages, the information minister wrote on Twitter.
The Information Minister’s remark came a day after the ECB announced its withdrawal from the Pakistan tour, following NZC’s unexpected withdrawal from the nation
He went on to say that a certain international lobby is aggressively working against Pakistan, but that the critics would never prevail and that their misconceptions will soon be dispelled.
It should be noted that this was New Zealand’s first visit to Pakistan since 2003, and England’s first visit since 2004.
After the terrorist attack on Sri Lanka’s team bus in Lahore in 2009, the international cricket world abandoned Pakistan. Pakistan has struggled to get elite international cricket teams to visit the country since then.
However, back-to-back losses in the form of tour cancellations by New Zealand and England have squandered all of PCB’s previous efforts, and Pakistan is once again facing the danger of being abandoned by the international cricketing community.
