Few Facts about the Holy Kaaba’s Door

The Holy Kaaba was built by Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام and Prophet Ismail عليه السلام in around 1900 BC. Here we are presenting some lesser Ismail عليه السلام known facts about the door of the Holy Kaaba.

At the beginning Kaaba had no doors

According to historians, the Holy Kaaba was initially constructed by Prophets Ibrahim عليه السلام and Ismail عليه السلام and consisted only of walls, with no doors or roofs. In other words, there wasn’t a place at the time to enter the Holy Kaaba.

Dual Doors

Subsequently, the Kaaba was exposed from two sides at ground level. In the past, people utilized the eastern entrance and the western exit.


King Tubba’s First Door

King Tubba, also known as Abu Karib As’ad al-Kamil, who ruled Himyar (Yemen) in the fourth century AD, was the first to construct the Holy Kaaba’s door.

He gave orders to the Jurhum tribe’s to keep the tribe clean and purified. The door had a lock installed, and authorized personnel received the keys. It was made of wood and remained in place throughout the pre-Islamic and Islamic eras.

Abdullah bin Zubair died all changed the Holy Kaaba’s original door in 686 AD, adding 11 arms to it. Later, though, it was modified to revert to its original height of 6 arms.

Secret Entrance to the Holy Kaaba

A rare and unexpected storm that hit Makkah during the Hajj in 2018 revealed a doorway leading to the Holy Kaaba. The second door of the Holy Kaaba is said to have been shut by Hajjaj bin Yusuf when he assumed control of Makkah in 697 AD.

Sultan Murad IV’s door

The Holy Ka’ba’s door underwent another change in the year 1635 AD, during the reign of Murad IV. The door was painted gold and adorned with up to 200 pounds of silver ornaments.

King Abdul Aziz’s door

The Holy Kaaba’s door began to sway in 1944 AD, so King Abdul Aziz built a new door. He requested the creation of a new door with a metal base and two wooden shutters fixed to its surface, embellished with silver, copper, and gold plating. Its production took three long years.

King Khalid’s Last Door

King Khalid bin Abdul Aziz ordered the construction of a new Holy Kaaba door made of pure gold in 1978 AD. The door was made by a jeweler named Ahmad bin Ibrahim Badr and took a year to complete.

The most recent door of the Kaaba was made from 280 kg of 99.99% pure gold. This is the Holy Kaba’s current door and the last door to have been altered.
