First-Ever Female Chief Justice to be Appointed at Peshawar High Court

The KPK (Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa) is likely to have its first woman chief justice as two senior judges of PHC (Peshawar High Court) will retire this week.

Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Qaiser Rashid, a member of SJC (Supreme Judicial Council) will retire on 30 March while Senior Puisne Judge Roohul Amin Khan on 31 March.

Afterwards, Justice Musarrat Hilali who is the most senior in PHC judges will be the woman PHC chief justice until her retirement on 7 August.

However, Umar Ata Bandial Chief Justice of Pakistan will conduct a meeting of the JCP (Judicial Commission of Pakistan) in order to consider the nomination of the new PHC CJ.

Justice Musarrat is expected to be appointed as an acting CJ and later might be as a permanent PHC CJ.

Former K-P advocate general Shumail Butt said, “Iit is a proud moment for the K-P province.”
