Flood to Drag up to 9 Million Pakistanis into Poverty:World Bank

According to the World Bank, in between 6 and 9 million of Pakistanis are into the poverty line due to devasating flood.

Pakistan has witnessed unpredictable monsoon in 2022 due to which around 1,700 people lost their lives and approximately 2 million homes and around quarter of the citizens are underwater.

Nearby 8 million of people are displaced, spending their livelihood under the sky in camps near stagnant lakes which destroyed their belongings.

According to the World Bank report, it is expected that poverty rate in Pakistan would raise in between 2.5 & 4% as per the consequence of the floods.

Report stated, Loss of jobs, livestock, harvests, houses, and the closure of schools — as well as spread of disease and rising food costs — threaten to put between 5.8 and 9 million in poverty.

Further it added, Reversing these negative socio-economic effects is likely to take considerable time.”
