Gas Supply in Sindh to be Halted for 48 Hours

The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has recently made an announcement that it intends to suspend the supply of gas to industrial and power plant facilities across Sindh province for a period of 48 hours, starting from Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 8:00 AM PST. This decision has been prompted by a noticeable shortage of gas within the SSGCL system, which has led to a decrease in gas pressure and availability.

The rationale behind this step is to manage the limited gas resources in an equitable manner. To achieve this, the gas will be allocated following a predetermined priority sequence. Under this arrangement, domestic and commercial consumers will be given priority access to the available gas, ensuring that essential services and everyday needs are met. Following this priority order, the allocation of gas to the industrial and power sectors will be temporarily suspended during this specified 48-hour period.

Furthermore, it is essential to note that the SSGC is actively committed to enforcing this arrangement and ensuring its compliance. The company has underscored that any breach of this arrangement during the designated Gas Holiday Period will result in stringent consequences. In particular, those found to be in violation may experience a discontinuation of gas supply for a minimum duration of 7 days as a punitive measure.

This decision underscores the challenges that arise from managing and distributing finite energy resources, especially during times of scarcity. The SSGC’s approach aims to strike a balance between catering to the immediate needs of residential and commercial consumers while addressing the gas shortage experienced in the industrial and power sectors.
