The Caretaker Energy Minister, Muhammad Ali, delivered bad news by announcing gas availability would be limited to 8 hours a day this winter due to higher gas prices.
He explained that gas would only be available in the morning, afternoon, and evening. To deal with the shortage, they have plans for LNG gas deliveries in December 2023 and January 2024.
In Pakistan, 30% of people use piped gas, while 70% rely on wood and LPG. The minister said that many piped gas users were protected from the price increase, while those using LPG faced higher costs.
He mentioned that the increased price would affect different segments of consumers differently, with some paying more than others. The goal is to make gas prices closer to the cost of LPG.
