Geely’s New Hybrid System Uses 2.2 Litres of Petrol per 100Km

Chinese carmaker Geely Auto has launched its advanced i-HEV Intelligent Hybrid system, aiming to challenge Japanese leaders like Toyota in the conventional hybrid market.

The new system uses AI-driven energy management that constantly analyses real-time conditions such as temperature, humidity, and altitude. This smart technology helps the car use fuel more efficiently by adjusting the balance between the petrol engine and electric motor.

Geely claims a vehicle fitted with the i-HEV system achieved an impressive 2.22 litres per 100km during a highway test on Hainan Island. This figure has been described as a new Guinness World Record for hybrid fuel efficiency in certain conditions. The system also delivers a record thermal efficiency of 48.41% for its dedicated hybrid engine.

The i-HEV system will first appear in popular Geely models, including the Preface (Xingrui), Monjaro (Xingyue L), Starray, and the next-generation Emgrand later in 2026.

Analysts say this launch marks a significant step by Chinese automakers to compete globally in the hybrid segment, which Japanese brands have long dominated.

The combination of high efficiency, smart AI features, and competitive pricing could make Geely’s hybrids very attractive to buyers looking for low running costs.
