The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced the release of Rs. 27 billion in new currency notes ahead of Eid ul Fitr 2025. This initiative follows the SBP’s tradition of providing fresh notes to the public through commercial banks during the festive season.
To make the distribution smooth, over 17,000 bank branches across Pakistan are involved in issuing the new notes. Additionally, arrangements have been made to ensure that ATMs function properly, making it easy for people to access cash without any hassle.
Eid ul Fitr is a special occasion in Pakistan, and exchanging new currency notes is a long-standing tradition. Many people withdraw fresh notes to give ‘Eidi’—money gifts—to children, family members, and loved ones as part of the celebrations. The demand for crisp, new notes increases every year as Pakistanis prepare for Eid festivities.
Eid ul Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting. It is expected to be celebrated on March 31, 2025, depending on the sighting of the moon. The government and banks work together each year to ensure that enough new currency is available for the public before Eid.
The SBP’s move to issue new notes is aimed at making Eid celebrations more joyful. People across the country will be able to collect the fresh notes from their respective banks in the coming days. With the holiday season approaching, families are looking forward to celebrating with traditional food, gifts, and the cherished custom of giving Eidi.
