Google Pays Tribute to Late Pakistani Activist Perween Rahman

On her 65th birthday, Google paid tribute to late Pakistani human rights campaigner Parveen Rehman with a doodle.

Rehman, widely regarded as one of the country’s top development workers in Karachi, oversaw the Orangi Pilot Project, one of the country’s most effective non-profit projects for assisting local communities in escaping poverty.

The government honoured the Karachi-based humanitarian worker with different awards, including the Sitara-e-Shujaat.

Civil society continues to honour the acclaimed urban planner and social worker’s effort eight years after her assassination.

Perween, the youngest of four siblings, was well aware of the dangers, but she persisted.

On March 13, 2013, she was killed in a drive-by shooting of her car near the Banaras flyover, only minutes after leaving her office for home.
