In the National Assembly on Friday, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi introduced a constitutional amendment bill to create the province of south Punjab.
Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser received the bill from Qureshi. Qasim Khan Suri, the Deputy Speaker, was also present at the occasion. The Speaker issued orders for the bill to be added to the agenda of the session on Monday, in response to a request from the foreign minister.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi, speaking to the media outside Parliament House, asked opposition parties to support the constitutional amendment bill, including the PPP and the PML-N.
He further added that this has been a long-standing demand of the people of southern Punjab and also that the bill’s passage will strengthen the federation even more.
