The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Rawalpindi, Muhammad Ali, has issued orders to make Murree, a popular tourist destination, a no-smoking zone.
The official made the remarks while chairing a meeting of the District Tobacco Control Implementation Committee, during which he demanded that immediate action be taken to ensure that Murree is free of tobacco smoke.
Because Murree is a popular hill station with visitors from all over the country, a “Smoke-Free Murree” must set an example that would eventually reflect a “Smoke-Free Pakistan,” according to the DC.
He stated that all other tehsils in Rawalpindi would follow suit, making Rawalpindi the first district in Pakistan to be tobacco-free.
