Govt Departments Advised to Move Websites to NTC’s Data Centre to Prevent Cyber Attacks

To all federal secretaries, the IT and Telecom Ministry has written a letter to ask them to shift websites of their respective ministries and attached departments to the main data centre of the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) to secure their data and websites from possible cyber attacks.

The Ministry of IT has also asked the government departments to shift to and use all official emails at ‘gov.pk’.

Official websites on private domains were revealed to cyber attacks which may cause a loss and leakage of sensitive and essential information, the letter stated.

By the end of 2021, a senior ministry official said that all departments were likely to reach the stage 4 e-office as Covid-19 lockdowns had increased the process and highlighted importance of digitisation of all government departments.

Under the e-office programme, the NITB has trained 14,300 government employees and around Rs300 million has been saved yearly in stationary budget whereas, about 80% saving of operating time has been seen in the departments that have become computerised completely.
