As per sources, the federal government has recently ruled that criticising state institutions, such as the Pakistan Army and the judiciary, is a punishable offence.
According to reports, the government has given its approval to alter the Prevention of Electronic Crime Act 2016 in order to take action against those responsible for hostile activities against state institutions.
Further, anyone who defames the country’s military or other institutions might face three to five years in prison, as per the proposed amendment.
In addition, reports added that a presidential ordinance amending the cyber crime legislation will be released shortly.
