The government will shift public buildings to solar energy.
Amid the energy crisis, the federal government has decided to shift public buildings to solar energy. The Information Minister said that work on 4,000-5,000 MW projects would start soon and the task force would submit recommendations to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
In a statement, the Information Minister said the meeting reviewed various measures to increase solar energy production and decided to shift public buildings to solar energy. Maryam Aurangzeb said the meeting also decided to set up a solar plant where electricity is provided on subsidy. “Participants also considered formulating policies to promote energy-saving and green energy,” she added.
In early June, the federal and Punjab governments decided to launch power-saving drives in government departments. “The air-conditioners of 20 officers from Grade-17 will be kept off for three hours during working hours,” the sources said. According to sources, the government has decided to keep officials in the loop after the general public in its power-saving campaign. Wapda, LESCO, FBR, and Railway Departments will be part of the campaign.
Information Minister further said that steps were being taken to further increase the solar energy capacity, adding that the use of solar panels would also enable the government to sell additional power to grid stations.
