Govt Withdraws Subsidy on Electricity Bills for Farmers to Meet IMF Demands

In order to satisfy requirements set down by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to renew the loan program, the federal government has stopped providing subsidies on power bills to consumers in the farm sector.


The discontinuation of the Kissan Package for base rate relief of Rs3.60/kWh to private agriculture consumers starting on March 1st, 2023, has been approved by the Federal Cabinet, according to a notification made by the Power Division.


Following devastating floods that wrecked devastation across the nation in October of last year, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif unveiled the Kissan Package to aid farmers in their recovery.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) established the electricity subsidy of Rs3.60 per unit at the base pricing in December of last year.
