Haider Ali Pakistan’s only athlete leaves for Paris for upcoming Paralympic Games

Haider Ali, Pakistan’s only athlete competing in the upcoming Paralympic Games, has left for Paris along with his coach, Akbar Ali. The Games are set to officially commence with an opening ceremony on August 28, 2024. Haider Ali, who hails from Gujranwala, will represent Pakistan in the F37 category of the discus throw event, scheduled for September 6. This year marks his fifth appearance at the Paralympics, a testament to his enduring commitment and exceptional talent in the field of athletics.

With over 4,000 athletes from 170 countries expected to compete, the Paralympic Games showcase the incredible talents of athletes with various physical disabilities. Haider Ali stands out not only as Pakistan’s sole representative but also as a seasoned Paralympian with an impressive track record.In his previous Paralympic appearances, Haider has brought home multiple medals for Pakistan. His most notable achievement came at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, where he won a gold medal in the discus throw with an outstanding throw of 55.26 meters. His journey to the top began with a silver medal in long jump at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, followed by a bronze medal in the same event at the 2016 Rio Paralympics.

However, he was unable to compete in the 2012 London Paralympics due to an injury.On August 13, the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Director General, Yasir Pirzada, officially announced Haider Ali’s participation in this year’s Paralympic Games. During a meeting with Haider, Pirzada expressed confidence in Ali’s potential to secure another medal for Pakistan in the discus throw event.”We are honored to send Haider Ali to the Paralympics once again,” Pirzada stated. “His exceptional talent and dedication make him a top contender for another medal, and we are confident that he will make Pakistan proud again.
