Peshawer: On Friday, the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Higher Education Commission agreed to create a coordination mechanism between the provincial department of higher education and the commission to address issues facing public sector universities in the province.
A statement issued here claimed that, at a meeting between Chief Minister Mahmood Khan and HEC Chairman Tariq Banuri, the decision was taken.
It said that various matters associated with public sector universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa came under discussion. Special assistant to the CM on education Kamran Bangash and other officials were also present on this occasion.
The statement said that they discussed matters associated with improving quality of education and research within the universities. it had been decided that so as to make sure effective representation of the provincial government within the commission, secretary education department would personally attend the commission’s meetings.
It noted that the provincial government would present its recommendations with reference to HEC within the upcoming meeting of Council of Common Interests.
The chief minister said on the occasion that education was one among priority sectors of his government. He said the govt was already working to streamline matters associated with universities and to urge their issues resolved.
Mr Khan asked the HEC to play its due role to resolve the problems being faced by the general public sector universities within the province.
Mr Banuri praised the steps taken in the higher education sector by the provincial government and said the commission would work closely with it to address university issues and increase the quality of higher education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
