Hiran Minar – Location, History, Structure, and Other Details

Hiran Minar is a historical architectural piece in Pakistan that is the centre of attraction for tourists. It was originated by the Mughal emperor Jahangir in remembrance of one of his favourite pets, “Mansraj”, as a landmark. Building the tomb monuments over skulls of the game is part of ancient customs and traditions.

It is considered the 16th-century complex developed by the Mughal emperors. It is famous due to nature and the relationship between “humans, animals, and hunting.”

Location

Hiran Minar is a historical place located in Sheikhupura, Lahore, Pakistan. It is suited almost 40 Km “northwest of Lahore”. You can also find it around Sheikhupura Fort, developed in the 17th century. You can visit Lahore through the M2 motorway that connects “Lahore and Islamabad” from both sites.

It is known as the best attraction place for visitors who come worldwide to visit Pakistan’s historical monuments.

History

Pakistan has a lot of Historical Places Hiran Minar is one of them. Hiran Minar’s “Deer Tomb” was constructed in the era of Mughal Emperor Jahangir and belonged to the best sites. It was built in a “hunting reserve” that was only for the “Mughal royals”. The hunting reserve was initially built in the forest consisting of small bushes. The reason is that Mughal emperors were fond of chasing nature games.

The hunting reserve provides the royals with an experience of semi-wilderness around the imperial city of Lahore. Thus, the place was initially used as a park by the visitors, and they enjoyed hunting sport.

Hiran Minar was constructed in 1606 C.E. as a landmark at the request of the Mughal emperor. He requested to build the tower and grave for his beloved pet, having the name “Mansiraj” (having the meaning of “lord of all animal beings”).

From history, it has come known that the emperor ordered to cover the Hiran where it was breathed for the last time, and a tower was assembled there, and later on, Hiran Minar knew it.

Soon after, it was accompanied by the pavilion constructed in the reign of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan.

Minaret

The minaret is 110 meters tall and stands as a tomb marker of Mansiraj. Its sides are craved with a eulogy to pet deer “Mansiraj”.

Pool

There is a pool in the heart of Hiran Minar Complex. It is 229 x 273 meters large. There are brick ramps at the centre of each side of the pool. There slope downs toward the water providing access to the wild game sought by the hunters.

Pavilion

It was built in the era of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. It is at the centre of the pool. Its architecture is similar to the Sher Mandal located in Delhi Purana Qila, established by the emperor Humayun. A water tank and semi-wilderness surround it.

Causeway

It connects the pool and Minar through the axis and passes through a gateway.
