How to Offer Eid Namaz: Step-to-Step Guide

Eid has always been a happy holiday. A joyful supper with family, giving gifts to loved ones, and saying special prayers are some customs associated with this day. Most Eid prayers are offered in groups at mosques and other designated locations. If you can’t make it to these events, you can still pray on Eid at home. During either Eid Al Fitr or Eid Al Adha, this article describes how to perform the Eid prayer at home.

If you’re unsure of how to perform Eid salah, take a look at our handy guide below!*

Eid Salah – step by step

During normalprayers, ‘takbeer‘ is said only once, but for theEid prayer, you have to say ‘takbeer‘ 12 times in two rak’ahs (this is the procedure ). One can say seven takbeers in the first rak’ah and then begin reciting the Quran as done during normal prayers.

Takbeer

Transliteration: Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar La Ilaha Ilallah Wallahu Akbar Allahu Akbar Wa Lillahil Hamd
Meaning: Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest. There is no deity (no god) besides Allah and Allah is the greatest. Allah is the greatest and to Allah all praises belong.

It is wajib (compulsory) for every adult Muslim to recite Takbeer Tashreeq audibly after fardh salat starting from Fajr of 1st Shawal 9 Dhu al-Hijjah until after Asr of 13 Dhu al-Hijjah. It doesn’t matter if the salah was performed individually or in congregation. It should also be recited for Eid al adha salat.

Women are advised to recite silently.

  • Make the intention to perform Eid prayer.
  • Give the opening takbeer (‘Allahu Akbar’) with the imam.
  • Say the opening supplication quietly to yourself.
  • Give 3 more takbeer with the imam, raising your hands out for each.

  • Say ‘Allahu Akbar’ while moving into ruku (bowing) with the imam and continue the prayer cycle as normal.
