According to people familiar with the situation, Apple Inc. is working on a thinner and lighter MacBook Air, the company’s mass-market notebook.
The new computer is scheduled to be released in the second part of this year, or at the very least in 2022. Apple’s MagSafe charging technology and the company’s next-generation Mac CPUs will be used. Apple has contemplated slimming down the Apple laptops by reducing the screen’s border, which will stay at 13 inches. The latest model is slightly over half an inch thick and weighs 2.8 pounds at its widest point.
According to the insiders who asked not to be identified because they were discussing private things, Apple explored making a larger version of the MacBook Air with a 15-inch screen. Still, it isn’t moving forward for the next generation. A spokesperson at Apple declined to comment.
MagSafe is a magnetic charging technology that was eliminated from the 2018 MacBook Air redesign. That implies that grabbing the power cable by accident will disconnect it from the laptop rather than shutting it off completely. A pair of USB 4 ports will be available on the new model for connecting external devices.
The new laptop will be a higher-end version of the existing MacBook Air, which will likely continue in the company’s range as an entry-level option. Apple recently updated the product in November, replacing an Intel processor with its own M1 Mac chip.
