Indian Tennis Team Arrives in Pakistan for First Time in 60 Years for Davis Cup

Breaking a 60-year tradition, the Indian tennis team has landed in Pakistan for the Davis Cup Group I tie, overcoming months of uncertainty and initial reluctance. The tie is set to happen at the Sports Complex Grass Court in Islamabad on February 3-4.

This marks a historic occasion as India and Pakistan face each other on the tennis court after a prolonged gap. The head-to-head record stands at 7-0 in favor of India, with only two matches played at neutral venues in 1973 and 2019. The Indian team’s last visit to Pakistan was back in 1964.

Despite the All-Indian Tennis Association’s (AITA) efforts to change the hosting rights by appealing to the Davis Cup Committee and the Chair of the Independent Tribunal, they were unsuccessful. Faced with the choice of playing in Pakistan or risking penalties and potential relegation, the Indian team opted to travel for the tie.
