In Hisar, Haryana, an Indian woman gave birth at the age of 72 thanks to In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). Daljinder Kaur, 79, gave birth to a boy on April 19 after two years of IVF treatment at a fertility clinic in Haryana with her 79-year-old husband Mohinder Singh Gill. The couple was married for 46 years but never had a child. (SEE ALSO: Daljinder Kaur, the 72-year-old woman who gave birth to a child!) The baby was conceived with the help of the couple’s own egg and sperm. The child is now healthy despite weighing only two kilograms (4.4 pounds) at birth, according to the National Fertility and Test Tube Centre.
Mohinder Singh Gill, Kaur’s husband, stated that he was unconcerned about their age. The couple hoped that God would protect their child, whom they named Armaan. However, this is not the first time this has happened in India. A 72-year-old woman from Uttar Pradesh state reportedly gave birth to twins through IVF in 2008.
