Instagram Will No Longer Let Adults Message Teens Who Don’t Follow Them

Instagram has introduced new measures to protect young people on the site by limiting interactions between teens and adults.

Adults will no longer be allowed to send messages to people under the age of 18 who do not follow them on Instagram:

In a blog post, Instagram said, “As we move to end-to-end encryption, we’re investing in features that protect privacy and keep people secure without accessing the content of DMs.”

Prompts or safety notices can also be used by the site to enable teenagers to be vigilant in conversations with adults with whom they are already associated. When an adult who has been displaying potentially suspicious activity interacts with young people in DMs, safety notes may appear.
