Mobileye, Intel’s self-driving technology unit, has recently set a target of introducing self-driving electric shuttle vehicles in the United States by 2024, as part of its efforts to increase its footprint in the autonomous vehicle market.
According to Reuters, Mobileye will launch on-demand autonomous shuttles with 12 to 14 seats and no steering wheels or control pedals, in collaboration with partners Benteler EV Systems and Beep.
Furthermore, the firms plan to operate within “contained geo-fenced areas” with a maximum speed limit of 35 miles per hour.
Mobileye also plans to launch robotaxis in Israel and Germany by the end of this year, with the aim of having self-driving electric vehicles on the roads of United States in 2023.
Intel (INTC) has also announced that it plans to spin out Mobileye this year in an IPO that may be worth $50 billion.
