Iran Likely to Offer Visa-Free Entry for 60 Countries

Iran is exploring the possibility of easing border restrictions by removing visa requirements for passport holders from 60 countries. This proposal, currently under consideration by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant authorities, aims to facilitate international travel and increase the number of tourists visiting Iran. The tourism ministry submitted the proposal to the President’s office after Ayatollah Ebrahim Raisi’s visit, indicating a strong push for its implementation.

The recent statistics indicate a positive trend in Iran’s tourism industry. During the first two months of the year, the country recorded approximately 850,000 foreign tourist arrivals, showing a remarkable growth rate of over 50 percent compared to the previous year. Moreover, in 2022, foreign tourist arrivals witnessed an astounding increase of 315 percent compared to the previous year, with 4.1 million tourists visiting the country. The recovery in tourism can be attributed to the lifting of travel restrictions imposed due to the pandemic.

Iran, located in the Middle East, boasts a rich history and cultural heritage that attracts visitors from around the world. Its diverse landscapes range from majestic mountains to vast deserts and beautiful coastlines along the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf. The country is renowned for its architectural wonders, including the ancient ruins of Persepolis and the breathtaking mosques of Isfahan. Additionally, Iran’s cuisine, art, and literature reflect its vibrant cultural identity, adding to the allure of the country as a tourist destination. The warm hospitality and deep sense of tradition further enhance the experience for visitors.

Iran offers a wide array of tourist attractions, including bustling bazaars, fascinating museums, ornate mosques, historic bridges, traditional bathhouses, grand madrasas, exquisite mausoleums, ancient churches, and towering structures listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. The potential normalization of ties with Saudi Arabia may also have a positive impact on Iran’s tourism industry, as it could lead to increased cooperation and exchange of visitors between the two countries. Furthermore, Iran aims to counter the negative portrayal it believes it has received from Western media propaganda, and the easing of visa requirements could help attract a more diverse range of tourists.
