For the first time in eight years, Iranian pilgrims will resume regular travel to Saudi Arabia starting from December 19.
Flights will depart from 10 airports in Iran, carrying pilgrims on the Umrah pilgrimage to Mecca.
This development is a significant sign of improved relations between the two countries.
The resumption of full diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia was mediated by China in March.
This agreement allows Iranian pilgrims to participate in both the haj pilgrimage and the Umrah, marking a positive step in religious and diplomatic ties between the nations.
The move is also part of broader negotiations to reintroduce non-religious tourism and direct flights between the two countries. Up to 70,000 Iranian pilgrims are expected to travel to Saudi Arabia by the end of February 2024.
