Iraq Bans Solo Pakistani Men Under 50 for Misusing Visa

Iraq has introduced strict new visa rules for Pakistani pilgrims to stop misuse of pilgrimage visas. According to a circular issued by Pakistan’s Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony on June 22, 2026, Pakistani men under 50 years of age will not be allowed to enter Iraq alone. They must travel with their registered family members if their visa was issued under the family category.

Iraqi authorities raised serious concerns after noticing that some people obtained visas as part of family groups but arrived at immigration without their relatives. Many are suspected of using pilgrimage or visit visas to seek employment or engage in other unauthorized activities instead of religious visits.

Family visa holders must travel together with listed family members. Passports will be retained by Iraqi immigration upon arrival except diplomatic and official passports. Each family member, including newborns, needs a separate valid passport with at least 6 months validity. Pilgrimage visas are valid for only 30 days and separate visas are required for Ashura and Arbaeen visits.

Overstaying up to 60 days can result in a fine of 500,000 Iraqi dinars. Longer overstays may lead to detention, deportation, and a lifetime ban on re-entry. Visa fees will not be refunded if entry is denied.

The Ministry has directed all registered Ziarat Group Organizers to strictly follow these rules and inform pilgrims. Travelers are advised to plan carefully and comply fully to avoid problems. This policy aims to ensure genuine religious visits while maintaining strong ties between the two countries.
