Despite the fact that 500 persons tested positive for Covid-19 in the federal capital and Rawalpindi on Sunday, the district health officer stated that Islamabad was on its way to herd immunity.
The virus killed two people in the garrison city, but no one died in the capital. According to data, 266 persons in the capital were infected, with a positivity percentage of 5.47 percent.
On the other hand, only those who did not receive their second dosage on Sunday were treated in vaccination centres. The NCOC decided also to keep all vaccination centres open on Sept 6 (Defence Day) to inoculate as many citizens as possible and to achieve herd immunity.
Dr Zaeem Zia told Dawn that there were already more than 40000 tests completed in the previous week and that almost 70pc of the population of the city had been immunized partially or totally.
“We move into the immunity of herds. Positive rates were 5.36pc last week, compared to 7.04pc a week before last week,” he stated.
In answer to the inquiry, Dr Zia stated that although absolute numbers were not available, 90 percent mortality among unvaccinated persons were recorded by specialists.
“Cases may be reported and reported, but if everyone is vaccinated, the number of catastrophic cases would decline,” he stated.
Dr Zia said the four vaccination centres which remained operational in Islamabad had jabs in 4000 patients who needed a second dose.
The immunizations were given the previous day by adding 21642 persons who require both first and second doses—out of a total of 2,500 people immunized in the F-9 Park alone. Furthermore, on Sunday 4,864 tests, including monitoring and contact tracing samples were done in the city.
